THE MOVEMENT:
A new, more inclusive and advanced sustainability movement has emerged
This new movement seeks to find a balance between social, financial and environmental interests and forces--a balance that will assure a healthy and vibrant planet for present and future generations.
This movement, that evolved and learned from its predecessors, has been quietly growing and gaining momentum for decades. In fact, it has now grown to over one hundred million people, one million non-profits and countless for-profit companies committed to sustainability in their practices and models. (according to Paul Hawken in his book Blessed Unrest) . However, "...these groups collectively comprise a movement that has no name, no leader, no location, and that has gone largely ignored by politicians and the media." "Despite the potential for movement-building in the successes, many of these efforts remain a well-kept secret, uncovered mostly through word of mouth or internet sleuthing. They are disconnected from each other. By connecting these struggles, we can unlock a powerful, kinetic energy." (Danaher's Book, PG 251)
Clearly, the movement is primed and ready, but in order for it to reach its potential and bring about the changes that are needed, it must become more organized/efficient, recognizable and accessible for everyone. It not only needs a name, but also a common voice and a shared vision--this is the Envirolution.
